Why it pays to invest time and some money in selling/preparing to
sell your home - introduction
If you have made the decision to sell your home yourself and not use
a real estate agent, it usually a good idea to invest some time and
money into preparing to sell your home. In order to get the highest
possible selling price, you will want to make sure your home is in the
best possible condition. If you have resided in your home for a long
period of time, your home likely has much sentimental value. Keep in
mind that your home may not have as much value to others as it does to
you. As a long time home owner, you probably have gotten used to certain
negatives of your home that potential new owners will probably not like.
It is recommended that you try to see your home from the perspective of
potential buyers who have no sentimental attachment to the home.

Before you allow people to begin viewing your home, make sure you give
it a complete cleaning. You may also need to remodel parts of the home
in order to get it in an acceptable condition. You will also want to get
rid of the clutter from your home. After removing the clutter, if the
house looks too empty, you can add flowers and plants throughout the
house to give it more of a nice live in look.
When preparing your home for sell, you also want to clean the floors
and walls. Depending on how bad your carpet and walls are, you may need
to replace the carpet and paint the walls. This can make an old house
look new and fresh.

If you do your best to get your house in the best possible condition
before you begin selling your home, you will be able to get the highest
possible selling price. |
